You have the freedom to set your own dreams.
"And if you set your sights too low, then that's all you will achieve. If you set your sights too high, what's the worst that can happen? Even if you don't ultimately scale those great heights, chances are that you will end up much higher than if you had aimed for second [or third, fourth, or fifth] best."

Converting Capital Into Software That Works
"...the real goal for software companies should be converting capital into software that works. If you understand this, it's easier to make the right strategic decisions."

Is Your Boss an Idiot?
So you work for a dimwit. Unfortunately, you have two choices: Get over it or get out. The problem in most cases is that your boss isn't going anywhere. Those who are in charge either had enough acumen to get themselves to the spot above you, they have the benefit of a protector, or they own the place. "The boss is there and he or she is not going to change," Lundin said. "It's you who has to change." Read more...

- There should be room to continue to enhance it if you wish.

- You can generate income from it. By selling it, by subscription, membership or other means.

- The project could better the industry, or society in general. A charitable cause or an educational, informational idea.

Tips for a new Application

First, last, and always, what do you need?

What have you looked for and not been able to find? What have your friends and family members complained to you about, you tried to help them, and ended up frustrated? Your own need, or the needs you know others have, is where you'll find your ideas. And once you get into the mindset of frustration=opportunity, you'll end up with far more ideas than you have time to develop them.

Don't be afraid to take an idea and turn it around, look at it from a different point of view, or from a different marketing perspective, and see whether that would make it unique and appealing to a segment of people.

Persuade your boss?

Have you heard similar questions from your boss?

"Don't we already have something that does the same thing?"

"Why can't we just use Access and Excel?"

"Isn't this just a solution to a short-term problem?"

"How do you know it's the best such tool available?"

"What sort of cross-product evaluation have you done?"

"How widely is the product used?"
